Winter wedding vibes

This weekend we hosted a lovely wet winter wedding.

Congratulations to Neil and Nadine, we are so happy that you had such a blast.

The couple got married in front of the cellar, ate and celebrated on the stoep (made cost by curtains and heaters) and danced the night away under the tent covered dance floor.

Staying Stable

We recently turned the old stables on the farm into accommodation.

This two bedroom cottage (each room with an en-suite bathroom) has an open plan kitchen and living room, two outside chill areas and a private splash pool.

The furnishings are luxurious but laid back, the bedding proper, the bathrooms unique and there will be fresh farm eggs and bread baked right here.

We are now taking bookings for March and April – head over to our accommodation page or contact semma@aabadenhorst.com.

Proper pics coming soon.

Movie night: a love story

Last night we celebrated Valentines Day with a beautiful outdoor movie screening.

With pink Caperitif welcome drinks, pizza, wine, popcorn and the famous Badenhorst Family Ice Cream paired with a feel good local love story under the stars – it was truly a night to remember.

We plan on doing a few of these throughout the year so be sure not to miss the next one. Send me a mail on aabadenhorstwine@gmail.com to be on our events mailing list.

Irish love

Adi’s brother’s wife’s brother got married on the farm in January… it’s our extended Irish family!

We’re in the Wednesday Club…

And you should be too!

Perfect Hideaways, who manages bookings for our farm cottage accommodation, have launched a cool initiative called The Wednesday Club.

Basically, every Wednesday, hideaways in The Club (which includes our properties) that don’t yet have a booking for the coming weekend are offered to you with one third off the usual rates!

There are some lovely places on their list, so be sure to sign up.

For more info on our accommodation- head over to the page on this site!

See you soon…

We want to spend the most romantic evening of the year with you!

Imagine the setting – pretty picnic spots under the Swartland skies.

What: An outdoor movie screening, pizza from our wood fired oven, very local wine, popcorn and our family recipe ice cream. This is classic date night stuff!

When: Thursday 14 February, from 7pm (movie screening at 8).
Where: the lawns of Kalmoesfontein, Paardeberg, Swartland, South Africa.
Why: cause we can like to be romantic too.
Costs: R450pp, but ideally you come in pairs…

To book, email semma@aabadenhorst.com – only 12 couple spots left.
You can order extra (Badenhorst) wine of your choice too and there are accommodation options available for the night.
We are still debating which movie, so that will be a surprise…
ps. I would go JUST for that ice cream!

Wedding wonders

Our friends Ryan and Samantha (the immigrants behind wonderful wines such as Terracurra, Silvervis and Smiley) got married on Kalmoesfontein earlier this month.

It was a spectacular celebration of love – with Adi conducting the ceremony for them…

And the winner is…

On Sunday we hosted Convivium2015 on Kalmoesfontein. Before the event I reported the manifesto of what Andy Fenner and Wesley Randles, in conjunction with Badenhorst Family Wines, numerous (famous) chefs and local winemakers wanted to achieve, and by golly did we all feel like over-achievers by Sunday night…

I think it is safe to say the event was a roaring success and that only bigger and better things can come from this. If Sunday was the pilot, we are all in for a few Emmys in the future.

If the aim was indeed to, as Andy said “strip out the frills and unnecessary bullshit that sterile cooking environments can lead to, provide a stage for real collaboration, real inspiration and real connection.” and as Wes added “we want to create a feeling of camaraderie amongst local chefs. This is a stage to share ideas and to share the common love of our craft.” then the mission was completed on Sunday.

Real passion, real collaboration, real good results. Enough said.

Die oes skop af

The second week of January had just kicked off, most of us had barely unpacked our holiday bags and the first Syrah grapes were ready to be picked. No easing into this year, it is all systems go and harvest 2015 is here.

1544554_882234021811221_154056658565329966_n

on Monday the heat (and drought, hardly any rain since September) got too much, even for a die hard no-irrigation-prophet like Adi, and all the farm’s water got redirected to the vineyard. Meanwhile the temperatures rise and the pool is empty. Priorities.. 10393849_882913958409894_7596585208665548182_n

On Tuesday Samuel, Ana and their cousins Richard, Hardy and Jan Hendrik (from Stellenbosch!) stomped the first Syrah.

That concludes our first harvest update for 2015. Now for some featured fun.

Adi’s mom’s 70th, hosted on Kalmoesfontein late last year, is in the February issue of House and Garden Gourmet

IMG_4469while the 2014 Swartland Revolution occupies 8 pages in the Food and Home from the same month. Included amongst the feedback on the weekend, recipes of some of the delicious food and mentions of the world class wines, THREE CAPERITIF COCKTAILS!

Now we just need the go ahead to get the stuff moving…
