Last week we shared our Instagram account, this week we’d like to share some of our favourite pics by visitors to the farm.
Please excuse the typo in the location (and please let me know if you know how to change this – someone registered the venue on Facebook / Instagram with the incorrect spelling and we’ve been trying to change it for ages..!?)
We might not be the kind of winery that (takes time to) stick medals and awards on our wines or hang certificates on our walls (too much taxidermy and too many Tintin posters to put up!) but it is kind of nice to hear what experts think of our wines.
Experts like James Molesworth from the Wine Spectator. And so it was rather lekker to get these two ratings / write ups via our US distributors, in our inboxes last night.

We’re on Instagram (when the wifi works or the cellphone has reception, or that rare, magical moment when both collide) so keep an eye on @kalmoesfontein for lekker pictures of grapes, dogs, kids, wine, visitors, weddings, vineyards, sunsets, sunrises, events, shoots, features, chickens, braais and other random things happening on our little spot on the Paardeberg.
After a few weeks of quiet cellar preparations the first grapes have arrived.
And the winner is:
Two tons of Palomino came in from the Sout van die Aarde (Afrikaans, meaning Salt of the Earth) vineyard on the West Coast this morning!
I was too late and the boys in the cellar too busy (sticky fingers) to get a picture but I have been assured that the grapes are looking beautiful!
Meanwhile, the vintage might change but the rules stay the same:
While The Guardian proclaimed Grenache the toughest grape in the world and Forbes put the Swartland on their list of the top 12 underrated wine regions to visit in 2017.
We happen to have the oldest Grenache in the Swartland on Kalmoesfontein, so be sure to (make an appointment to!!) come visit us soon (and by soon I mean AFTER the harvest.)
