Pinotage, for the 2% that goes into the Secateurs Red Blend.
Ana approved.

newest residents on the farm… still too cute to start making bacon jokes.
Harvest is in full swing this week. The grapes wait for no-one and our flock of interns are working hard. This year we have three Americans (one female, two male), a local apprentice from origin wine and a Stellenbosch University student to help out in the cellar.
Last week we got a pretty cool mention:
London based chef Heston Blumenthal mentioned us among some of his (and our) favourite South African things, people and places.
“The new boutique wineries, not least the winemaker Ken Forrester, are doing super-concentrated chenin blancs that last for years. I’d say that’s the most exciting thing happening with the whites right now. There are also some fantastic Rhône-style reds. The winemaker Adi Badenhorst stands out and leading the group is Eben Sadie, whose top wine is Columella.”

In other news: ADI SHAVED HIS BEARD OFF. I’ve known the guy since I was in high school and I have never seen him look like this:
Adi is taking part (as an outsider and proud Swartland representative) in the Bot River Beards challenge. Click here to see more and we will keep you posted on the growth.
As the Christmas decorations went down the back-to-school posters went up. Now the pink hearts, teddy bears and red decorations pop up everywhere in a clever attempt to market and sell love to us.
We’re not big on marketing gimmicks or Valentines (last year we spent the day with Jack Parow, nothing romantic about that) but, in the spirit of love and the ones we love we have decided to run a little competition in conjunction with our family members who make the amazing Prince Albert Olives.
We want you to show us some love, and in return we will give you some lovely products…
‘What can I win?’ I hear you ask
Well, we will give you 2 bottles of Secateurs (Red and Rosé) as well as a Badenhorst Family Red Blend (red and pink wine in theme with Valentines) along with two liters of Prince Albert Olive oil and two pots of their amazing olives (one Manzanilla and one Kalamata).
What do you have to do to win that?
The classic “follow us” (BOTH @aabadenhorst and @PAolives) on twitter OR like both brands (AA Badenhorst Family Wines and Prince Albert Olives) on Facebook.
Tell us what you would cook for your loved one, using PAO oil, and which of our wines you would pair with it.
Either tweet “I will serve my love xxx prepared w @PAolives paired with @aabadenhorst’s xxx #valentines.”
Or write something like that on our walls.
*by doing this you give us permission to blog the hell out of your ideas if/when you win.
Winner will be announced on Monday 11 Feb in order for us to get the prize to you by 14 Feb.
Go ahead, spread the love.

Last night Adi casually mentioned the wine advocate ratings in conversation. Today I went to take a look at the latest scores and, while Adi will never ‘gooi’ them into a tasting or mention them at a trade show, I have to brag.
With a high score of 93 and the lowest score at 87 we score a whopping 90.8% average, something none of us can claim to ever have achieved in high school…
Below is a summery of the scores. Not to shabby hey Nige…
Tonight we will be pouring and tasting at &union. The tasting is fully booked – but if you are confirmed you can look forward to:
Secateurs Chenin Blanc 2013
Secateurs Red Blend 2012
AA Badenhorst Family Wine Red Blend 2010
AA Badenhorst Family Wine White Blend 2010
and the non-vintage Funky White.
All of these will be on sale at cellar door prices after the tasting.
On Thursday we will be back in Ape Town to pour, taste and chat at the first ever Wine Market at the City Bowl Market on Hope Street. Check out the event here.
Hope to see many familiar and new faces there.
