Our Secateurs Range has been with us since the beginning. Often referred to as our ‘entry level wine’ it ticks all the boxes in that category – easy to find, easy to drink, easy to buy and easy to understand.
But, 2018 marks ten years of the Badenhorsts on the Paardeberg and it brought with it a few changes – even to ye old faithful.
– The Rosé
Die Rosé was die laatlammetjie, the youngest of the three kids. This year it got a bit of a facelift. A pink wine with a blue label. No gender stereotyping here…
100% Cinsault juice – we are currently on the 2018 vintage and it is quite frankly perfect for summer days around the pool or with a sea breeze in the air.
– The Red
Our Secateurs Red Blend has gone from being Shiraz based [Shiraz (56%) Cinsault (22%) Grenache (21%) Tinta Barocca (1%)] to new a blend dominated by Cinsault (82%) [with Shiraz (10%) and Grenache (8%)].
As Adi says: “We’ve turned the Red Blend a bit upside down, actually helemal bollemakiesie. Why? Because Cinsault is a fabulous grape and always a pleasure to drink. We have lots of Cinsault bushvines on Kalmoesfontein and so do the neighbouring farmers…”
And, this post is a thing because we were all in the office together and Hanneke said – “I think people should know that this is a much more ‘summer red wine’…”
So here you have it folks!
– The Chenin Blanc
Is the Chenin Blanc and will always be the Secateurs Chenin Blanc. It might be called Steen occasionally and, if you believe the internet, this one is widely regarded as the best value for money Chenin out there.
Drink lots of it this silly season!
These wines are a part of our family and we hope you enjoy many bottles of it with your family as the year races to an end!
