Now that is what I call a good weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday we hosted the second edition of Convivium – a movement in food. Conceptualised by Andy Fenner (Frankie Fenner Meat Merchants) and Wesley Randles (The Shortmarket Club) the event saw it’s first installment on Kalmoesfontein last year in February. This year, with the help of foodie event specialists Studio H and the support of many top producers and growers, the weekend totally blew us away.

On Saturday we served

  • breakfast – prepared by Collete Robert (The General Store) in the veggie garden
  • lunch by Wesley Randles (The Shortmarket Club) & Jess Grant (The Table) in Die Bos
  • and dinner by PJ Vadas (Hoghouse) & Ash Heeger (ASH) at the Old House

to 70 chefs and industry insiders. These guests also had the opportunity to listen to some incredibly inspiring talks by some very passionate and intriguing humans.

Find out more about who they were and what they talked about – here.

On Sunday we served up a lunch like no other for the almost 150 lucky guests. With chefs like Wesley, Ash, Karen Dudley (The Kitchen), Jason Lilley (Jason’s Bakery), Emma Hofmans (Halleluyah) and Angelo Scirocco (Urbanology) – to name only a few, click here for a more complete list – cooking on open fires, under ground, with veggies from the garden and eggs from the chickens it was a treat from first bite to last lick of the plate.

It is a hard thing to put into words what we took away from all the stories and talks about responsibilities outside the kitchen and restaurant, the many angles of ethical and sustainable ‘from farm to table’ supply chains, networking tips and so much more.

I guess you had to be there…
