Vineyard: The TURKSVY is a Syrah vineyard established in the early 2000’s on the farm Jakkalsfontein, grown as bush vines (Goblet style) in deep granite soils. The vineyard is situated on one of the higher plateaus of the farm making it quite exposed to the south easter or as some may know it as the Cape Doctor. Growing condition for this specific vineyard is quite harsh and the yields are low.
Vinification: Grapes are harvested by hand in small lug boxes, fermented with 10% whole bunch & the remaining destemmed into open top cask. Gentle extraction during fermentation with one pigeage a day, fermented dry spending 4 weeks on the skins before pressed. The wine finished malolactic fermentation and is aged in an old 600L thick staved cask for 12 months.
Vintage: 2024
Tasting Notes
The Turksvy vineyard’s name is quite self- evidenced by an old Cactus pear/Prickly Pear bush growing from the granite rocks in between the vineyard.
This vineyard is occasionally bottled on its own and 2024 was one of these years. It possesses great fruit of the red spectrum, earthiness and some lovely spice. The palate is delicious in its transparency of fruit flavours, fair grip and gentle tannins.
