A more approachable, everyday series: wines like a red blend (Shiraz, Grenache, Cinsault), a Chenin Blanc and a Rosé come under this label. These are crafted with minimal intervention with a focus on freshness, drinkability and generosity.
Secateurs Chenin Blanc
The grapes for our best value white are all from the northern side of the Paardeberg. High quality fruit comes from old rain-fed bushvines grown on a variety of granite soils – all naturally low yielding. Grapes are hand picked with care over a period of 12 days and chilled overnight – then whole bunch pressed and left on its gross lees for four months before bottling.
Grapes: Chenin Blanc
Secateurs Red Blend
The grapes used are from our farms on the Paardeberg. Most vines are mountain sloped, rain-fed bushvines grown on a variety of granite soils that are naturally low yielding. All grapes are hand-picked, chilled overnight and then crushed into open concrete tanks for natural primary fermentation and foot stomped twice daily during this time.
Grapes: Shiraz 84%, Cabernet Sauvignon 11%, Cinsault 5%
Secateurs Rosé
Made from grapes grown on irrigated bushvines in the Swartland in granite and shale soils. They are all picked early in the morning – the whole bunches are transferred to the press and pressed directly. The juice was settled overnight and then racked into foudres and concrete tanks. At this stage juices are blended and naturally fermented.
Grapes: Mourvèdre
Secateurs Riviera
The grapes are from an old vineyard next to a dry river – so we call it Riviera. The soils are sandy decomposed granite. Grapes are picked when the tannins are ripe and the fruit has turned golden yellow. This is a skin macerated wine which means that, unlike the fermentation takes place on the skins and has the character of this process.
Grapes: Chenin blanc 36%, Viognier 27%, Sauvignon blanc 17%, Harslevelu 14%, Marsanne 6%
